Fred Gailan, Jr.

Chief Master Sergeant Fred P. Gailan Jr., was the superintendent of the Information Management Directorate, Headquarters, Air Education and Training Command (AETC) Randolph AFB, Texas. He was responsible for the overall administration and enlisted training for all Information Managers within the command.

Chief Gailan entered the Air Force in March, 1969 and upon completion of Basic Military Training, began Technical Training in the Administrative Specialist career field at Keesler AFB, Mississippi. Graduating with honors, he was hand-picked to attend the Postal and Courier Operations Course also at Keesler AFB. He was then assigned to Yokota AFB, Japan, as the Base Aerial Mail Terminal Registry Clerk. From there, he was selected for duty in the District Office as the Air Force Postal and Courier Service, Non-commissioned officer in charge of Administration.

After his tour in Japan, additional assignments included tours at Grand Forks AFB, North Dakota; Castle AFB, California; Comiso AS, Italy and Randolph AFB, Texas.

Chief Gailan was selected for promotion to Master Sergeant and Senior Master Sergeant his first time eligible. Chief Gailan was promoted to his current grade on 1 July 1989.

Chief Gailan graduated from the Tactical Air Command Noncommissioned Officers Academy in May 1979 at Bergstrom AFB, Texas and the Senior Noncommissioned Officers Academy, Gunter AFB, Alabama in 1986. Chief Gailan holds an associates degree in Applied Science from the Community College of the Air Force in Administrative Management and a Bachelors degree in applied Science from Wayland Baptist University in Business Administration.

His military awards and decorations include the meritorious Service Medal and the Air Force Commendation Medal with three oak leaf clusters.

He is married to Wanda Gailan. They have one son, Timothy, one daughter, Tiffany, and three grandchildren, Megan, Marissa and Joey.
